I’ve hired Quintessential Software Solutions to design and develop a new design for NEON2NV.com. I figured it was about time my project log got a more professional look! Should be completed by the end of the month! It looks great!!

I’ve purchased networkedhosting.co to replace the old networked-hosting.net domain. This .co domain is shorter and more professional looking! No more dashes!
I’ve been working hard on a new layout for NH.
I just pre ordered my copies of some pretty awesome games!
Duke Nukum: Forever

I’ve been exploring my options for WordPress the past couple of days and have found some pretty cool alternatives to actually going to the admin panel online and typing out my entres!
There are many different alternatives now with cell phones becoming more and more part of our daily lives. WordPress has an app for all the major smart phones: iPhone, BlackBerry and my personal favorite – Google’s Android! With the app you can change almost any aspect of your web page right from your phone! I’ve even wrote some of the entries here on my lunch break at work directly from my phone! The Android app is very user friendly so you’ll be off telling the world of your adventures in no time!!
I was updating my Windows Live software suite tonight and noticed that it includes an application called “Windows Live Writer”. I’ve used this application before when Live Spaces came onto the scene years back. What got me thinking was how messenger is now integrated with Facebook so I started to wonder if they’ve gotten their dirty little hands in on anyone else’s API’s. So I load up my newly updated Windows Live Writer and sure enough it is WordPress compatible! Right on! Now I can blog quickly right from my desktop! No more having to login to the admin panel – heck now I don’t even need an internet connection! I can grab my netbook and hit the road! Blogging from anywhere I feel like it! This will surely keep the creative juices flowing! Thanks Microsoft for the great addition!!
On another completely off topic note – I think I have become completely addicted to this blogging idea. It’s now 3am and I’m still up! I know its been around for years but for some reason or another I’ve caught the bug! Maybe its this neat .me domain name I was able to get my grubby little hands on!
For those of you that don’t know – ICANN really pushed personal blogging to a whole new level this year with their addition of .me to the list of available top level domains! With .me being so new many registrars such as godaddy.com and my personal favorite mydomain.com are pushing them out at the low price of $10.00. I like it because it’s shorter and much more personal then .com! Check it out!! Of course if you need a host Networked Hosting is always here!
Anyway, I think that’s it for tonight! Good night!
Today I brought together my two blogs. Most of you may not know this but I also own destructivechaos.com. Since 2005 I’ve used that site as my main blog site. Over the years I’ve grown up a lot and have become much more professional hence the move to a more personal chunk of web space here at gutjahr.me. All posts and comments (mostly spam) have been migrated here now. Two sites have become one.
DestructiveChaos.com will still be kept active if not solely because I know there are some vultures out there trying to steal it!
You know who you are! – It’s mine and always will be ($800 and it’s yours!!)
Other than that, I haven’t done much so comment!
I thought I’d post about some cool things I’ve been doing this week.. so here goes!
Updates!
I’ve been updating a lot of my websites this week. Most if not all of my personal web sites have been migrated to WordPress now. Why you ask? Because WordPress makes an awesome blogging software as well as a great CMS with a few minor changes in the settings!
Currently I have this website (gutjahr.me) and my car project log (neon2nv.com) running on the WordPress platform. I love WordPress because it makes it very simple to add content whenever, where ever I feel like it. For example, if I’m on the go and notice something super cool, I can blog about it right from my Android powered smart phone! Or if I’m in the garage installing a new part – I can snap a picture from my phone and have it uploaded instantly to the site!
Networked Hosting is also getting a CMS make over – right now it’s a completely static website making it more time consuming to edit pages and add services, with WordPress it will make changes almost effortless – all though I don’t see much changes needing to be made anyway.
Medicinehatautosports.com also got a major overhaul the week. I converted the entire message board over to InvisionPower’s IP.Board software. I feel this change was required as we were getting overwelmed with constant spam on the boards making it very difficult to find the actual posts by our members! IP.Board has great anti spam features in place to help completely eliminate SPAM!
Another neat feature is the facebook intergration. Since everyone seems to be on facebook these days I thought it might attract more locals to join if they could automaticly sign in using their facebook accounts! This feature works flawlessly! I’d recommend IP.Board to anyone searching for an message board for their site!
Games
I know I don’t usually post anything about games but I thought this was fitting because it’s about a game that has been around for about 20 years now! Completely awesome!
That’s right! Duke Nukem is back! I can not wait!!!! It’s on my list to buy!
I’ll update this post more in the morning.
Stay tuned!
I thought itd be a good idea to write a couple of reviews on the services that help add some personal touches to the website. One service being, foursquare.
In short foursquare is a mobile app dedicated to tracking where you have been and where your going. Simply when you arrive at your destination you must check in. For every check in you get points. The more points you get in a week the higher you rank on their leader board. Also, the more locations you check into the more badges you on lock.
We’ve made it into a nightly adventure to try and get all the mayor-ships in the city!
I know I’ve been talking about these services for awhile now.. I figured I’d write a review on what I think of them so far. I’ll start with my favorite, Netflix.
Netflix is an on demand movie service that allows you to do just that – watch movies when you want.
In my opion Netflix is great! I love it! Streams perfectly over my wireless network here at home. The selection of movies is always changing so you never have to watch a movie twice. They do offer some movies in HD which is nice on the big screen! I’ve experienced no lag while watching any movie. And finally, you can share one subscription with up to 6 devices, I currently have my 360, Wii, and Computer all running the Netflix service – they also don’t block sharing on different devices in different houses! – right now we have my subscription setup to play on my girlfriends Wii and laptop and have had no problem with her watching a movie at the same time I am.
Netflix also learns your taste in movies – this feature is really interesting and pretty much dead on! Netflix will learn your watching style and suggest movies they think you will enjoy. It’s a great way to find new movies! Make sure you rate every movie you watch for the best results!!
Best of all, Netflix is only $8.00 Canadian! You can’t go wrong with that!!
Now Netflix does have some cons too. The HD video is only 720p so they can’t replace your Bluray player in quality. 720p works best for streaming and bandwidth at home. That leads me into that issue as well – depending on how much you use Netflix your bandwidth will use ALOT of bandwidth cosidering you are streaming about 1.5gb per movie watched. Now if you were to watch a movie a night that would probably blow your bandwidth threw the roof. But Canada hasn’t set caps on residental bandwidth and it seems as of yet the government will not let them do this so Netflix is safe in Canada for now!
Another more nerdy con about Netflix is their API. On this site I had to signup for their API service and use POST to retrieve any information about my account. Netflix is currently working on recreating their RSS feeds for members. Once they release our feeds again it will be much easier to display recently played list here on my site – as well as cut down on our bandwidth usage on both sites!
I plan on setting up a CRON job to run every 12 hours to cache this list to save loading times.
In closing I’d say Netflix is a great investment. They make movie night more enjoyable for everyone – NO LATE FEES EVER!!
I’ve added the wp-mobile pluggin to the website. Now if you view gutjahr.me from your iphone or android phone it will load just like an ipod application, ajax approved.
I’ve decided to try and add some netflix information to the site too! Some basic information like recently watched might be a cool little look into my mind!
Since netflix has removed their RSS functions from their backend I will have to pick apart their site to try and gather this info so it will take a couple days to create.
I’m also going to try and also addsome fun foursquare things aswell. Like where I’ve been or places where I am mayor.
I’m going to try and be integrated with all the major social websites. Putting my digital life all in one place! Awesome!
